Abraham Lincoln stated most movingly in the military cemetery at Gettysburg: "that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain--that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom--and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth." Lincoln never let the world forget that the Civil War involved an even larger issue.
But now US army men are dying for no good reason, when do government realize this?

Abraham Lincoln was a very interesting man. I think they have a new book about his life on there. It was said that he suffered from severe depression most of his life and that he was secretly a homosexual.

I like Lincoln. He made some incredible desicions and President during a time of (and if you thhink people are prejuduce now) great strife.

i dont know why Black people forget that is was a Republican that freed them.

abraham lincoln never exactly liked the black people. not neccessarily. during the civil war he freed the slaves in a manner of the states that were not in the union, but slaves were allowed in the union. meh go figure. our hell of a president

Abraham Lincoln I read about. I don?t know much about any other American presidents but Lincoln is a adorable president who made a difference during his term.

The Republican Party in Lincoln's time was not conservative. In fact, it was considered radically liberal.

I don't know. I think the Republican was still conservative in the 1960s, yet they are the ones who pushed for passing the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

Who VOTED AGAINST the Civil Rights Act:

Robert Byrd - Democrat - ex KKK member and Current Senator
Albert Gore Sr. - Democrat - Al Gore's dad

Who VOTED TO PASS the Act:

BOB DOLE - Republican

More Republicans (percentage wise - since they were the minority party) than Democrats supported the Civil Rights Act.

why cant you remember replublicans? They freed the slaves. They made this country what it is today.

I hate liberalism. As a christian I cant stand it, but I do respect it and I listen to every word they say and I do offer respect for them.

Excuse me, you can't compare the american civil war that saw 920,000 american casualties and more than 620,000 american deaths to the dispatching of american troops over seas to protect our "strategic interests." There is NO comparison!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When will you libs learn your history??? What is it about "facts" that escape you so frequently???

The civil war was totally unnecessary and Lincoln had terrible regrets for ever starting it. Even Lincoln's top advisers warned him against war. It was only a matter of time before the southern states would rejoin the union and slavery was on its way out...less than 5% of southerners even owned slaves and the British had abolished slavery just some 30 years prior to 1861. Many in the South despised slavery, including most of the southern generals. It was outrageous for Lincoln to invade the South!

As for Iraq, you need to revisist the Clinton administration(1998) and watch him and his advisers publicly call for the militarly removal of Saddam Huesin...lib media didn't have any problem with this when a lib president advocated sending american troops to take Saddam...like some direct quotes?!
