Well, as you all know, there's a new plan put out by Bush, that will let illegal mexicans which have NO documents and crossed the border illegaly to have a job!
They can aqquire a 'temporary work visa' to work in the USA.
What do u think about this? Will this hurt or help our economy?
Is the crime rate going to go up? |

| well the counter argument to that is that the Mexicans will take American Jobs. Americans will not be happy when they won't be hired because some other mexicans were hired. And its only fair that American should get those jobs, since after all they're citizens of the country. |

By the way, they're implementing a new law if you guys want to know about it. If the law passes that was proposed a while ago, the Mexicans will be able to work with temporary work visas. The work visas will only last 3 years, and then they have to go back to Mexico for a new one. They will mostly only get jobs that Americans don't fullfill such as (1) Labor jobs, and the other minimum wage jobs.
I think this will work since the Americans usually go for the higher class jobs and leave the minimum wage jobs for others and minorities. The only thing is the crime rate might go up. |

Ok what you need to understand is that they will get legel documents to work. That means they won't just be mowing lawns. They will take the cashiers, janitor jobs, building cars, auto mechanics, fast food restaurants, and other low entry level jobs that they are qualified for. That is the whole point of the arguement. How many people do you know that have such type of jobs. That will be the jobs people will worry about.
And it is sad to know that you only see the mexicans as people who only can do jobs. What are you doing to make him legal? Have you found him an immigration lawyer? Are you willing to put some money aside for him so he can get the proper visas or green card to stay legally in this country? Or is it the fact that you think thats all he's good for? |

| I am strongly against letting illegal Mexicans come here to work. It will devistate our economy even further. I would hate to see a Mexican or any other foreigner for that matter taking a job from one of us Americans and then in turn sending the money back to Mexico. What does that do for our economy if the money is not being spent here? |

I think there's an economic need here for these people. It's just a simple fact that Americans don't want to do the jobs that Illegals have.
Maybe there's a compromise. I can see a guest program for these illegals, but at the same time, we will punish those that abuse the system.
Build the wall. I agree this is a great idea. There's nothing wrong and it will not cause a the cold-war like imagery on our borders. |

| Interesting debate. I must argue one point- I know PLENTY of good kids who would take those jobs- but pay must be commiserate. AND that is the point. Lowlife employers can hire an ilegal for about 1/2 of what average Joe would require. Do you have any idea how expensive it is to live in, say, California with median home prices at 700,000 versus Mexico? |

| If the work visa allows immigrants to apply for state sponsored benefits as well, then I would probably not want to see it offered. |

| I don't have a problem with the illegal Mexicans working in America. Now at first i did, i'm not going to lie. But after I had an legal Mexican put in my carpet, I changed my mind on the matter. I mean these guys did a great job on my carpet. I sat back and thought to myself, "if these guys can do a good job and are hard workers, why not let them work here?" They are taking the low paying jobs us Americans don't want or at least most don't want them until someone else takes the job. |

| Ah, but there is the rub, Nogard. You said LEGAL. Our issue is the ILLEGAL. If they are Legal, then they pay taxes, they contribute. What I'm opposed to is those who truly despise this country but come here to reap the benefits. |

| Mrs. Wolfie, I see your point also. Couldn't we make the illegals pay taxes? Yes, we could. Is the US government doing that? No they are. Deporting them back is just going to make them come over here again and again. |

| How do you make someone pay taxes? They don't have a SSN! It is not like we can pull them over and shake out their pockets! |

That 's a great point Mrs. Wolfire, we are paying our taxes with no hindrances, and to think that Illegal Immigrants not only Mexicans but other ethnicity do not have legal documents to work here, since they do not have any proper documentation there's no reason for them to pay taxes. That's the point they do not have SSN. It's unfair for us tax payers. |
