Hi, I've recently published a book about teleworking, doing your job connected from anywhere. I've been living thanks to many work online since 1998 and have many friends in many countries doing it.
However, most people don't see teleworking as a real option yet.
Would you consider changing your workstyle and start teleworking? Maybe convincing your boss to let you do it or just quitting and starting your own online based business? |

| The biggest benefit to teleworking is that it eliminates the costs involved with travel like gas, etc |

| I would consider working from home. I would love to work from home. Finding a good work at home type job is hard. |

Actually it's not that hard, I think is more like a change in attitude. Most people are scared of quitting their regular job because they think they won't find anything better.
It's like when you are very young and don't want to break up with that girl thinking you won't find other person who wants to be with you.
Just a matter of attitude. |

All I can say on the downside is that a few people I know that worked for themselves via the PC in their home, have had heart attacks. One was told that you should never sit in front of the pc for more than 20 minutes at a time.
You must find some way of incorporating excerise into your life if you do this kind of thing. People see it as less stressful than working in an office but there are less distractions, so you can just sit for hours! |

Heart attacks? Well, anybody could have one, I wouldn't connect it just with working at home.
But you are right, doing some exercise is a must. I always take a walk around my house and play a little with my daughter to refresh my mind and move my legs.
Time goes fast when you are working at home and you could forget about taking some rest. That's why I use an alarm in my PC that tells me when to stop |

| I'm not afraid to quit my job if I knew I was making money online. As long as the money is about as much as I make from my job, I would tell my boss to "take this job and shove it"... LOL I forgot who sung that song. |

Alexis,
I'm all for it! I made the move almost five years ago... though two years ago I had to rent office space for my primary "job." Still, it's mine and I make my own hours, etc. and lots of those are from home.
Discipline is the thing, and I think one has to seriously ask themselves whether or not they have the discipline. The rewards are countless and personal. You, for example, get to spend time with your daughter. That is absolutely priceless; and I'm sure you're a better dad for it. Your daughter is lucky |

I think you have hit the nail on the head there, Coda.
Discipline is paramount if you are working from home. If you are one of those people who know they cave in to temptation when it comes to work, then I wouldn't do it. |

| I agree as well, Coda. Our department gave some opportunities to work from home a few years ago. Apparently, productivity fell big time when that happened. |

I would also think as well, that you have to have a very supportive family.
They too have to understand the importance of leaving you alone to get on with work.
It must be very difficult if you have a spouse that constantly interupts or see's your being at home as an opportunity to go to the beach. |

| it also requires a LOT of self-control - it's easy to slack off when you've got your couch nearby with cable television and a loaded fridge! |

It's all about getting used to it, I've been teleworking for so many years that my wife, daughter and I know how to manage our time. We don't have strict schedules but we know when it's time to work and time for having fun.
But I'm sure many people working years in a conventional office doing what their bosses tell them to do could feel a little confused at first when findimg themselves alone at home, they have to re-learn to do things without directions from others first. |

I would love to bag the day job and work from home. I live about 30 miles from the nearest town and hate all the costs/time associated with working outside the home.
However, I have a husband with renal failure and need health insurance. Not sure how to get around that hurdle in the US...
I have spent a LOT of time looking for a job where I wouldn't have to loose benefits but could work from home. Haven't found it yet.... |

I always wish to run my own business at home. I?d love to be a boss of myself but the problem is, I have not yet enough knowledge and sources how to do it. Recently I just do my online job as partime.
Maybe if I am ready enough to run be a boss of myself, I am willing to stope working in the company. |
