Humans living till the age of 150 or more

I read an article awhile back, how the scientists just discovered a new gene in mice that they could turn off, and the mice would live 150% longer than their usual lifespan.

I think we are pretty close to living a century or two. Maybe in the few coming decades, the scientists could breakthrough and we could live much longer.

I think I'm fine dying at 70ish, who wants to be immortal?

Even I?m with u even I want to live only up to 70 ? 75, It doesn?t really matters that how many years u live the only thing that matters is what difference u made by being a part of this world.

Its a cycle, earlier, ppl used to live till 100+, when the air was pollution-free and life stress-free...now we'll be livin to 100+ with full pollution and stress.

I know that this is a pretty old thread but I thought it deserved to be resurrected (A pun!)

I don't think we will be living to a grand old age of 150. If you look at the kids of today they have all kinds of health problems relating to their lifestyle and diet.
If anything, I think the age we die at is going to be considerably less than it is now.

Anyway, what government is going to want an ever increasing and dependant elderly population?

I am all for dying in my 70's or 80's! Did they say what quaility of life that these mice had? I mean just because your breathing doesn't mean that you're really living in my opinion.

Yep, it's quality that counts.

Once you become dependant on others for your daily needs then I would start to think about calling it a day.

Anyone recall reading the 4th book of Gulliver's Travels? It's been a while, but if I remember correctly, it is the part of the book many people don't read. It deals with someone living to be 150 or 200, but pretty much everything after the 80's is nothing but a burden.

I think I have the correct book, like I said it's been a while. But the point of the story is that even if we COULD live that long, we'd be miserable due to poor health and fragility.

If anyone recalls this... Or has heard of this but as part of a DIFFERENT classic, please let me know. In the meantime, I'll try to dig up my old copy from college and see if I'm on the money Smile
