How about a fence if it's too expensive?

What's interesting is that there's a lot of outrage on this issue. You're seeing a lot of privat particiaption. Maybe volunteers will chip in.

oh, it's the idea that building a physical wall along the US/Mexico border will stop the illegal immigrants.

sure can't hurt, says I!

If you built it they will jump it. They will even try to dig under it.

Erm, doesn't the Berlin wall spring to mind here?

The trouble with walls is, they don't only stop people getting in, but they also stop you getting out - if that becomes somebodies aim.

Well, it is a desperate situation around Mexico. The fences lining Texas and California simply do not work.

I didn't know you had fences in Texas or California?

We have the same problem with people coming in from the French end. Not the French you understand, they seem quite happy in their own country. But illegal immigration from all over the world.
The annoying thing is, that although they are supposed to be asylum seekers, they pass many, many countries to get to us.

It seems to be because our benefits system is more generous and immigration legislation more lax, than other countries.

Oh boy, do we ever have fences. They don't work, though, and sometimes citizens take matters into their own hands which is never a good idea.

To be honest, I think it won't be long before people take matters into their own hands here, as well.

It really has been mismanaged by the government and authorities.
I think a big problem is, that immigrants are being seen to be given preferential treatment over residents.

It stirs up a lot of bitterness.

Quite a few people seem to be voting for the BNP (British National Party) recently, but I do get the impression that they are doing it simply to let the government know they have had enough.

take out the businesses who hire the illegals and slap them with huge fines - if you take out the jobs, then the illegals will stop coming! or at least slow down...

You have a valid point.

We blame the immigrants but if our own business people weren't so eager to get cheap labour, then the problem would be sorted quick sharp.
