| Eh, yes and no. Someone has to do the jobs their doing so what are we going to do, raise rates so people here will do the jobs? I doubt it. Who is going to pay an 18 year old ten bucks an hour to flip burgers? |

This is true.
So really I suppose we have to define if the problem is of our own making?
There are jobs here that nobody wants to do either, yet we don't want anybody else to do them???
Very confusing. |

we've got a generation of spoiled brats who don't want to work for anything - they just want their ipods and their BMW's.
sad reflection on America. |

| Sad reflection on their PARENTS. My children are not that way at all. They appreciate anything they are given and are perfectly satisified with second hand goods because they are aware how utterly poor other parts of the world are. BUT- I took pains to raise them that way. It is up to the parents how their children will view and act in the world. |

true- I've seen too many spoiled brats, young and old, who figure that they deserve everything their parents have - NOW, instead of woorking for it like their parents did.
flipping burgers at McDonald's just isn't cool enough when they can get hundreds of bucks allowance to buy their jeans and iPods, doncha know. |

I saw a tv programme some time ago, where they were discussing children who were 'deprived,' because they didn't get all they asked for at Christmas.
I think some folks definition of deprivation may be a little different to mine. |

Don't say that Thumper, it's soooo depressing.
We have the same problems here if it makes you feel any better. |

| well, it's not going to get better until parents grow a pair and say "no" to their whiny kids... tell them to go flip burgers if they want that BMW and all that. |

You know, I'm not that pessimistic. Pratically, in every generation, you have the older generation telling them how bad they are. I remember, when I was a kid, Generation Xers were told that they're going to be total useless failures. They watch MTV, listen to loud music, don't like school, etc...
But seriously, did Gen Xers turn out that bad? Didn't Xer's drive this thing called the "Internet Boom?" Or, didn't Xers create most of the start-ups?
Didn't they say Hippies were going to ruin the country in the 60s? What happened? |

| the hippies did .. they raised kids with no morals, no ideas of what it meant to work for a living and then pushed drugs into their kids to keep them docile - 'ADD didn't exist when I was growing upa nd we sure weren't pushing Paxil on teenagers to keep them quiet! |

Did all hippies take drugs then, Thumper?
I don't think drugs were such a big thing back in the 60's, despite what the media said.
I certainly think they are a bigger issue in todays society. Most kids seem to have at least tried them, certainly not the case when I was a kid. |

and where are the parents to tell them NOT to take the drugs, eh?
where are the parents to lead them in a decent life that contributes to society instead of leeching off the rest of us who work? |

Right, where are the parents?
Well, many of us are the parents now and we must understand that we are not only raising our children, we are creating part of the future, so let's forget for a while about that big game on TV or our "always so important" job and let's spend some quality time with our kids, reading a good book, maybe teaching them to play chess, how to use the computer or just talking.
It's fun talking with them, I really enjoy doing it with my little girl.
iPods and BMW's won't be as important in our kid's lives as a nice chat with mom or dad. |

| and that'll be the big part in her life - that she knows her parents, and not just as moneybags to be dipped into to get the hottest new toys. |
