Society! Culture! Or parents who give so much liberty to their kids? I don?t protest on liberty given to children but its mainly parents responsibility to monitor their children. Because teen-age pregnancies not only make our kids suffer physically but also has a physiological effect.
I want to share a personal experience my friend went through this painful process on abortion a month ago she is 21 years old. She has opted for abortion because her husband died is a road mishap and she is left with nothing (she doesn?t have a job, property) though she has physically recovered mentally she still curses her self that she got her child killed.
She is an exception. But what about other children who just fool around with a lot of ignorance and negligence. |

I believe in a womans right to choose. But on the other hand I am not open to woman who fool around and not protect themselves either and think that abortion is a birth control measure. I really don't think that abortion was made for that form of deterent. I believe it should be used in instances of rape, incest, molestation, or the mother's health is in danger or the fetus will not make it. I am for abortion to a point. There are Contraceptions that can help one if one can not practice celibacy before marriage. And abortion is not a birth control/contraception.
I also had a friend who just recently had one. She has 7 children and was pregnant with the 8th. At 4 months an ultrasound was done and had trouble keeping a heartbeat. They did other tests and found there was many defects with the child. She decided to terminate.
I am a widow with two teens and never regreted keeping my children. I have struggled through the years. But have had many highlights that outwiegh the struggles. I have found through many years I have had many friends and family for support. Even if they could not give me much, their emotional strength was enough to help me endure.
All woman should have a choice on abortion. They must also act responsibly with their bodies. There are many options out their when it comes to an issue like this, so one does not have to deal with the mental anxiety after having an abortion. |

| I have to agree with Phil. It seems that teaching abstinence is just going to have to be a thing of the past and the more important thing is to make sure that our children are protected when they engage in these acts. I don't think that there is anyone to blame in this situation we just need to change the way things are done so that they make sense for the times. |

| It's the parents responsiblity to educate their children. Not just about sex but the meaning of sex and resposible sex. I personally don't want a teacher at school teaching my kids what they are supposed to teach about sex. I know teen-agers will have sex, my teen-agers are educated on all aspects of it. And now it lies with them to be the resposible ones. |

| doesn't matter how much education you give people, you're always going to have some guy figuring he's a MAN by impregnating as many women as he can - blame the hiphop culture for that and then keep handing out the free birth control! |

| You can't blame anyone but the couple that engaged in sex. If the parents talk to the children about sex and they children don't listen, how could the parents be at blame? We have to factor in pure pressure also. A boy at school bragging about sex and that makes he's friend want to know what it's all about. One thing leads to another. |

society has also made it "cool" to be preggers and single - after all, what does a kid need a father for?
look at Hollywood - why get married when you can sleep around, have kids and still be applauded? |

| That's true thumperfive. Hollywood does play a big part in this also. So does rap, rock and all the other music genres out there. So does the news and other media outlets. Seems like sex plays a part in everyday life for most. There's where the wrongs come in. There's where the kids thing it's right. |

I just don't think there is enough societal emphasis placed on respecting yourself when you are a girl.
There is far more emphasis on fashion and boyfriends.
Maybe we should look at instigating a balance somewhere. Perhaps the youth magazines should try giving it a shot. |

| I'm with Pink on this one. As for Hollywood and Music... that's no excuse for not taking parenting responsibilities. |

Thing is Coda, that in an ideal world, parents should be responsible for teaching kids, but if we don't teach it in schools what happens to the kids who don't learn it at home?
I suppose it's all down to ideals and the actual practice. |

I wouldn't leave it up to the schools on teaching my kids. That's the parents job. But you can teach your kid right from wrong but you know they will make up their own minds. You got pure pressure that helping them make up their own minds also. Pure pressure is a big part of a teenagers life. They think they have to be cool like their friends and do what they do or they won't fit in. |

but parents want to be FRIENDS, not parents. So we let the little buggers run wild, and when they come home pregnant we pay for the abortion and then send them back out again with a new pack of condoms.
how sad. |
