Is it just me or being atheist is the new thing that is 'in' among young people?

Every teenager I talk to is either atheist or doesn't care about his religion.

I think in the coming generations, church donations and spending will be VERY low.

The new generation thinks its very cool not to go to church on sundays.

Im not going to go into whether its right or wrong.

As I posted same views for other threads, I again want to repeat the same thing. Religion is nothing but a right way of living life. Religion has to be inherited by parents. I don?t find any reason why do people don?t care for there religion, because bible teaches all right things to do in life. I don?t say that atheists are not good humans but they have to first know about any religion before converting to atheism.

We can?t blame younger generation for not caring about God! Because its our responsibility to teach then religion, once they grew up its their individual choice to remain religious or to become a atheist.

Speaking with my daughters friends and many of their answers would disagree with your findings. I find your statement that many kids are athiest is so untrue. We live in a metropolitan city. We live in the inner city. Many of her friends do believe in a higher being, but never claim to be athiest. They say how they see it help their parents and their lives. But that their parents let them choose for themselves. They say right now they want to be freespirited and be able to make mistakes without the quilt they get from church related subjects. They have a belief that they always can go back to any church and repent at anytime they fell like it.

I respectfully disagree.

I think we are born atheists, do you think a baby knows he or she should believe in a God? Being an atheist is just natural.

Family or society then make people theists. What we are now seeing is that many people are forgetting about teaching religious ideas to the younger ones, life is busier, parents just don't care or many other reasons, and it's logical they are atheists.

I believe it is in the hands of the parent's to teach their children their beliefs. I don't believe in a true aethism- if you are truly an aetheist, then you believe in nothing and that is believing in something! Smile

Seriously, my children view their faith as one of the most important part of their lives and I'm humbled by that.

Well, did you ever think that going to church is wrong? Or perhaps following religon X, Y, or Z is wrong? Why is it the Atheist is singled out as an abnormality and assumed to be in the wrong? That's not fair.

I think we are also making a tacit assumption--why is it bads that church donations decline? Must they always be high or we are being immoral or wrong?

I don't really think it's appropriate to tie Atheism to teenagers as if it's some sort of adolescent, rebellious fad either. It's a serious position that is entertained by millions of adults.

I don't really think it's "cool" to go to church either. Why should I? Do you think it's cool to go to Utilitarian conventions?

Someone above said that true atheism, since it is belief in nothing, is really believe in something. Well, it's a lot more complex than that. I would be glad to explain if someone wants to listen.

I disagree with the idea that atheism is the new "in" thing. I was a teenager myself not so long ago, and I was the only atheist I know. Even if people don't practice as well as they should, most teenagers do claim Christianity, and I was very ostracized for not having any belief system. People thought it was strange and something worth whispering about.

What I have observed with the present generation is that of something worse than being an atheist. That, of being uncaring to the plight of other people. Being an atheist is accepting that you don't believe in God but being somebody who seems to come from nowhere, without concern for others is worse. I hope that something can be done on this.
