Is America too polarized that they might have a hard time voting for Barak Obama and Hillary Clinton, based on race and gender? Although these 2 figures are popular in their party, I believe that if there is an African American or Female president, the first one would be a Republican, not a democrat.

WOW... that's an interesting statement. Here's why, well in my humble opinion, anyway...
IF the Republican candidate were female or african american, there would be more democrats to cross party lines and vote for that candidate -- however the typical Republican might be too conservative to do this, so if the Democrat candidate were female or african american, I don't think there would be enough Republican voters to cross party lines for that candidate to win.
NOW HERE'S THE INTERESTING PART....
I don't believe the Republican party would successfully elect a woman or afican american candidate in the primary elections. I DO believe the democrats can do so.
So it's kind of a catch-22... which is why I believe there are a number of elections before you'll see a woman or african american president.

Coda, you have some pretty good points. I'm thinking that the electorate, as a whole, might be less inclined to vote for a minority with strong social convictions. I'd think that the electoral would be more inclined to vote for a minority without the social stigma.
As for the
replublican
electorate, you'd be
surprised
. This election in 2006 had 3 gubernatorial (governor) candidates elected from the Republican party who were african american. Also, there's was another US senate candidate who's african american-- close election.
I didn't see the Democratic party field this many high level minority candidates.
