Wherever Wal-Mart goes it had to put down an uprising to start business. It’s happening even in the US and anywhere else it goes, the recent one being in Mexico where everyone went up in arms because it was driving local small retailers out of business. Soon it might be outlawed in some countries.

I can't see Walmart being outlawed in a country. However, I do know of several US communities, such as The Hamptons on Long Island, and I believe also Martha's Vineyard, who have passed local regulations that won't allow any franchise stores to open within a certain geographic area. This is not only to protect the small businesses currently there, but also to maintain the "charm" and sense of community of the area.

They had the same problem in Mexico too, protecting historical sites and localities. But it does a lot of business wherever it goes at the expense of local business and there is no reason why some of them wouldn't want to keep it out. The drive was that in Mexico according to what I read.

We have that issue before, Walmart is opening another branch down here near our place. But before other stores were complaining about it, Like Food Lion and other smaller retail stores, But I guess Walmart has a big connection with politicians. I don't complain about it they have low and competitive prices, It's bad for other businesses near them.

Vote with your feet. If you don't like Walmart, don't shop there. Otherwise you will drive other businesses out - not Walmart.

great point reviewer, everyone complains about the chain but you still see them shopping there, the problem is there prices are so good how can you not shop there when you are watching your own bottom line, I personally think Sam Walmart was a genius. He found a nitch and ran with it and he has a huge empire because of it.
