Alcoholics don't change for a couple of reasons. One is denial, the other is wanting to. When they get to that stage then they can.
Trouble is, a lot of them still drive up to that point.
And since, alchohol is such an accepted part of our society, they have ever excuse to delay those stages. |
We I say no one wants to help them, I mean their family. if they family wanted to help they would. It's not hard to smack a bottle out of someones had and ship their butt AA. |

| it's only a crisis when it affects their life directly, like losing the car or going to jail - otherwise it's just an inconvenience when they hit the fence or the neighbor's dog or or something... |

Don't you think the problem starts with things like that?
Hitting a neighbours dog, could be a kid next time.
Besides which, hitting a neighbours dog or knocking down a fence, is not acceptable behaviour either. |

it starts, but no one wants to get involved.. we all want to look the other way or make excuses.
my grandmother was a lush towards the end of her life, but other family memberrs just excused it as "an upset stomach" when she was ill at parties and the like.

Well, I think we are actually in agreement on this one, Thumper.
Maybe the alcohol situation is a little too close to home?
I think it links somewhere to people being a little less keen to point the finger because alcohol is sociable acceptable and it may reflect on them.
I just know I am not being clear here at all!
It must be the wine |

it's also societal, as well - it's only really been in the last generation that it was found unacceptable to drive drunk...
and yet we still see Spring Break as a huge drunkfest and celebrate it with sending our kids off to Cancun and other places to get so drunk some of them die.
sad. |

| They should be harsher there are so many people that have been hurt and killed , it starts with a dui and we need to do something about this if someone would injury or hurt someone in any other way we would not think twice about harsher laws, i totally support harsher punishments there is absolutely no excuse for getting behind a motor vehicle after drinking alcohol. |
