yes except washington had the support of his nation was seen as a great man by other countries aswell.
And politics in those days were not at such an extreme level really.
Washington was simply good at making people follow him, but politically and even as a general he was usually simply lucky. |

| Carter? Yes, he wasn't bad, but he did screw up a couple of things, but then so did everyone. |

Really...what did Jimmy do as president that made him the best of all in your mind. Was it the loss of Afghanistan to an invading 100,000 man soviet army?? Jimmy woke up the next morning and asked why they did such thing...it was because the soviets correctly viewd Carter as a weak liberal who would not challenge them and they were correct.
Was it the oil shortage fiasco that Jimmy made worse by having gov't dictate where gasoline supplies would be delivered and not delivered?
Was it Jimmy's asinine refusal to support the Shah of Iran(one of our biggest allies in the mideast) and allow the islamic fascist Ayatolla Khomeni to take over Iran and turn it into the islamic theocracy we see today and will have to probably fight???
Was it Jimmy's economy where we saw for the first time 21% interest rates, almost 9% unemployment, full recession, hollowed-out unfunded military????
Was it Jimmy's cancellation of the B-1 bomber and refusal to fund stealth techonlogy which brought us the F117 and B-2 bombers. How about Jimmy's refusal to fund the M1 Abrams tank...all of these systems we saw in action during Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi freedom....wouldn't have any of these systems if Carter had his way.
Please tell us...just exactly what the hell Jimmy Carter ever did as president to make him great...millions of americans would like to know??? |

| For me Ronald Reagan was the greatest president of all times. He led us out of the mess Jimmy Carter left, proposed a balanced budget and defeated the Soviet Union. Nothing Jimmy Carter or Bill Clinton did would even come close. |

| i can't believe how many have said bill clinton. you do realive that it is his fault that they are even talking about putting the draft back into play because he cut the military nearly in half during his presidency and pretty much ignored any kind of threat to this country. i would have to say that it was probably ronald reagan. he was one of the only presidents to really work to make the military better then when he first got in office. |

Favourite UK Prime Minister: Clement Attlee (2nd best Harold Wilson for saying NO to British involvement in VietNam.
Fav US President: Jimmy Carter, though in retrospect - after 8 years of GWB- Bill Clinton wasn't that bad.
Fav US President you've never had: Al Gore! |

It certainly wouldn't be George W. Bush. History will judge him as the worst US President in the last 100 + years. Given the massive mess he's created in the Middle East, the rapidly declining US reputation and prestige worldwide, the tremendous domestic economic mess we're currently facing, as a result over an over zealous and under-regulated financial system, along with oil prices at an all time high (which won't be going down anytime soon) , I'd say he'll give Herbert Hoover a run for his money. The Chinese and Russians will be laughing about him for the next 20 years, as they continue to grow at 8+%/yr.
My vote would be for Teddy Roosevelt. He's the one who got the pseudo monopolies of American business under control, which set the stage for the rapid US industrial growth for the 20th century. The Panama Canal was created during his administration, which among other things helped to fuel the growth of California over the next 50 years. He truly started the environmentalist movement in the US too. |
