Why I Wish I Never Became a Cop

I'm a retired officer from the East Coast, and I can honestly say that I wish I never became a police officer. I did my best to do good during my career, but the administration kept bringing me down. I think I only made a dent in the world. I never moved mountains like I dreamed I would when I was a kid.

I had always wanted to be a police officer. I watched all the cop shows and movies, read cop books, and even dreamed about being a police officer when I slept at night. I think I just fell in love with the movie version of a cop, not the real version.

Plus you have to deal with the ignorant media. I don't understand what their obsession is with the police. Some minor incident happens, and videos appear all over the Internet and all over TV. Soon, everyone is yelling "POLICE ABUSE" when in fact the incident has been a regular occurrence over the last few decades. Something doesn't become wrong overnight, and that is why the media is ignorant.

Give it some real thought before you sign the dotted line.

First, thanks for your service. There are still many of us who believe that most police officers are great people, doing a horrendously difficult job in horrifically difficult times, under severe criticism and scrutiny. But, please don't allow the utter garbage that infests much of the media outlets, or the ass kissing city administrations to undermine what you did accomplish on the job. I don't know you, but believe that you are sincere. And so am I....
